Modern Open Plan Living in Berkshire

We transformed this Berkshire family home undertaking a major extension and internal reconfiguration. Two smaller rooms were knocked through to create a generous open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. The brief was to design a space that felt cohesive, sophisticated and functional — a place where the couple could cook, eat and relax.

The clients had a cherished collection of porcelain figurines and pieces of artwork that inspired the scheme. Using our in-house colour psychology and style questionnaire, we identified their preference for warm, grown-up tones. Deep aubergine walls in the living area create a cocooning, relaxed atmosphere, while Farrow & Ball 'Elephant's Breath' in the dining area works beautifully with both the artwork and the black cabinetry, tying the spaces together.

We designed bespoke lit display shelving to showcase the porcelain collection, integrating it as a feature rather than an afterthought. A modern contemporary fireplace was specified to complement the luxury interior design scheme, adding both visual focus and comfort.

Although the space is open-plan, we carefully zoned it into distinct areas for cooking, dining and relaxing. Each area was given ample seating, creating a sociable layout that works equally well for daily life and entertaining guests.

The finished space is light-filled, welcoming and entirely tailored to how our clients live.
