Oxfordshire Show Home
Project completed: 2019 | Location: Oxfordshire | Project type: Luxury retirement complex show home space planning and interior design
Our brief for this commercial project was to design, fully furnish and style a show apartment for a luxury over-55s retirement development, giving prospective buyers a clear and compelling vision of how life there could look.
The luxury development's target buyer was someone in the middle of a significant transition - leaving behind a larger family home, but with no intention of leaving behind their standards. These are people who still entertain, still have family to stay, and still want a home that reflects their sense of style. Our design needed to have an appeal to wide range of prospective buyers - giving them a taste of how their own apartment could look.
We worked through our colour psychology and style process with the commercial stakeholders to establish a direction that would resonate broadly with their client base without feeling overly generic. We arrived at a refined coastal palette of warm neutrals, navy and natural wood tones that felt sophisticated and liveable in equal measure. The open-plan living and dining space needed to work as hard as a full-sized home, so every furniture and storage decision was made with a downsizing couple in mind: enough room to host, enough practicality to make daily life easy and simple.
The second bedroom was designed with dual purpose from the outset. For visiting family it can function as a guest room (with its sofa bed); for the resident it works as a study and reading space.
Throughout, the aim was to show buyers that scale is not the same as quality. A well-designed two-bedroom apartment, properly considered and fully finished, can offer everything a large house offered, just without the burden and upkeep of it.
