Principal suite & family bedrooms

Project completed: 2026 | Location: Oxfordshire | Project type: Interior design for principal bedroom and bathroom ensuite and other family bedrooms and bathrooms

The couple we designed this for have grown-up children now, and after years of family life in this house, they wanted it to feel like theirs again. This was a project that extended beyond their principal bedroom and ensuite, encompassing the grown-up children's bedrooms and bathrooms too. Our approach was to create spaces that felt connected as a whole, while still reflecting the individual personalities of each family member.

As with all our projects, we with our colour psychology and style questionnaire to help us understand the colours, patterns and styles they naturally gravitated towards, giving us a starting point for developing schemes that felt truly personal to them. Their artwork was also an important part of the design process and often became the starting point for a room, with colours and tones drawn from pieces they already loved and wanted to live alongside.

For the principal bedroom and ensuite, the scheme evolved into something rich, colourful and slightly unexpected, with references to South African safari woven through the design. The ensuite itself is long and narrow, but we made sure every inch of it worked hard. Jack and Jill basins with individual mirrors and lighting ensure the couple each have their own space, while a bespoke mural wallpaper featuring florals and animal print brings personality and pattern to the room.

Across the wider upstairs of the house, the same thoughtful approach was applied to the grown-up children's bedrooms and bathrooms. Each room was designed around the person who would use it, considering their individual tastes, favourite colours, and existing artwork. The result is a home that feels cohesive without being overly coordinated, we made sure every room has its own personality, but together they tell the story of the family and their life in the house.
