Spacious Hallway Design

This busy family had a large hallway that should have been a welcoming entrance to their home, but instead had become a dumping ground for coats, shoes and school bags. With little storage and neutral magnolia walls, the space felt cluttered, disorganised and disconnected from the rest of the house.

Their brief was to create a calm, elegant entrance that could cope with everyday family life while setting the tone for the rooms beyond.

We designed bespoke, floor-to-ceiling storage along the length of the hallway, giving every item a proper place without filling the space with visible clutter. Integrated coat hooks, shoe storage and concealed drawers allow the family to keep the entrance tidy while still being practical for daily use. Handleless doors keep the overall look clean and contemporary.

To give the hallway a sense of focus and comfort, we put more focus on the fireplace by creating a seating area, turning what had been a thoroughfare into a place where people can pause, sit and talk. A hand-woven rug anchors the space and adds warmth and texture.

The flooring was chosen for both durability and style. Herringbone porcelain tiles in soft stone tones add interest underfoot while standing up to the heavy traffic that comes with family life. The pattern subtly guides movement through the house, reinforcing a natural sense of flow.

The finished hallway is now calm, organised and quietly elegant — a space that works hard for the family without feeling busy or cluttered. It creates a strong first impression while supporting the practical needs of everyday life, showing how thoughtful design can turn even a hardworking entrance into something special.
