Wallingford Open-Plan Residence

Project completed: 2023 | Location: Wallingford| Project type: Interior design and bespoke joinery

We redesigned this open-plan living room for a family who had recently purchased their home but found the original magnolia painted space lacking in character and warmth. The brief was clear: transform the room into the heart of the home — a place that felt inviting while maintaining its sense of space and adding practical storage for family life.

The room had good proportions and natural light, but felt bland and unresolved. Our approach was to introduce warmth and personality without reducing the feeling of openness, which was important to the clients.

We specified two complementary shades of blue for the walls, creating subtle depth and visual interest that made the space feel more intimate without closing it in. This layered use of colour gave the room a softer, more welcoming atmosphere while preserving the airiness of the layout.

Storage was integrated through bespoke joinery to create a multi purpose media unit that housed the television and provide closed storage for toys and games. This meant the family were able to easily store and house their items that got daily use, without cluttering the space or compromising the relaxed feel they wanted.

The finished room is now a calm, cohesive space where the family gathers and it has become the heart of their home.
