• Task Lighting: As the name suggests, this is targeted lighting for specific activities. It prevents eye strain and makes tasks easier and safer. Key examples include:
  • Under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen for chopping and food prep.
  • A reading lamp beside a favourite armchair.
  • Vanity lights around a bathroom mirror.
  • A focused desk lamp in a home office.
• Accent Lighting: This is where the magic happens. Accent lighting is used to add drama and interest by highlighting specific features, such as artwork, architectural details, or beloved objects. Picture lights, uplighters behind plants, or LED strips inside cabinetry are all forms of accent lighting that create depth and personality.

Geometric Grandeur Statement lighting is back, and the current trend is to think big and bold. Large-scale geometric fixtures with sharp edges and metallic cages are making a huge impact above dining tables, coffee tables, and kitchen islands. These sculptural pieces act as a focal point, merging general lighting with high art. Don’t be afraid to choose a finish that complements your scheme; from matt black and brushed brass to polished chrome, the options are endless.

Natural and Organic Materials. In line with the global movement towards eco-friendly and biophilic design, lighting fixtures made from natural materials are incredibly popular. Woven shades made from raffia, rattan, and bent wood, or simple linen drum shades, add texture and warmth to a space. They diffuse light beautifully, casting a soft, gentle glow that’s perfect for creating a relaxed atmosphere. Pair these organic shades with elegant glass or marble lamp bases for a chic blend of rustic and refined style.

The Minimalist Naked Bulb The epitome of industrial-chic and minimalist lighting, the exposed "naked bulb" trend remains a firm favourite. But this is minimalism with a twist. The beauty lies in the customisation, allowing you to build a unique fixture.

• The Bulb: Forget standard bulbs. Today’s options are decorative in their own right, available in a huge variety of sizes, shapes, and finishes—from oversized antique Edison styles to iridescent or mirrored globes with unusual, shaped filaments.
• The Components: The customisation continues with wonderful fabric cables in every conceivable colour, texture, and pattern. These are finished with unique lamp holders and ceiling roses, which can be found in any metal, colour, or even materials like wood and concrete.

A fantastic example of this creativity is a recent project we designed at Flippa Interiors. We worked with Creative Cables to create a truly bespoke fixture. We sourced an old ladder, suspended it from the ceiling, and wrapped it with five different coloured cables, each finished with wooden lamp holders and large, warm Edison bulbs. The outcome was a show-stopping piece of art that perfectly captured the client's personality.
